 As an artist I move between phases of exploration and creation. My work seeks to express emotive states through the human form, and world-states of intricate surrealist abstractions. When art is at its finest, artist functions as medium, the channel through which automatic processes can take place. A medium through which viewer and art can form dialogue - the artist takes a secondary role: as structure rather than focus or form itself.
To me 'good art' is art which is more than the sum of its lines, its concepts, and critical analysis. 'good art' is something that remains ultimately undefined, observable from different perspectives, something which holds something of meaning every time it is re-observed, by different people. In a vocabulary that transcends language. A solidification into visual/audio form of an experience-state which would otherwise remain inexpressible. Bound by time, but inherently timeless.
Each line is alive, eyes speak and can be peered into, every element in hierarchy and yet all independently valid. The dualistic truths of rational - and irrational, scientific - and holistic, infinite, multidimensional and yet intimately personal modes of life.
When I am lucky, I function as a channel for something that is of me, and yet only moves through me. I hope mine serves as a window into my world, but also a truth that will be re-interpretable in countless other ways by yours. As art should stand, with or without definitions. gallery (slide show)
